Eliana, Valentina, and Jessica present at symposia!
Eliana presented her work on computational neuroanatomy of her auditory cortex lesions at the NBB undergraduate symposium. Valentina presented her work on developing histological approaches for studying Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s at the chemistry symposium. Jessica presented a slideshow on Alzheimer’s Disease and hearing loss. Unfortunately we don’t have pictures of the slideshow, but we got pictures of the posters!

Lab receives funding for Parkinson’s
Happy to announce that we have received funding to develop a new way to study Parkinson’s Disease. This funding comes the McCamish Foundation at Georgia Tech, and supports us in initializing a new collaboration with Eva Dyer’s computational group, the NerDS lab, at Georgia Tech.
Welcome Nia Walker, LGS-SOAR scholar!
Nia Walker comes to us from UMBC where she is majoring in Public Health. She joins the lab for the summer of 2023 through the LGS-SOAR program. Welcome Nia!
Osama defends his thesis with highest honors!
Today Osama Hussein, one of the very first undergraduate researchers to join the lab, successfully defended his honors thesis on “Identifying brain regions that enable auditory localization in freely moving mice”. His thesis committee, composed of Dr. Claire-Anne Gutekunst (Neurosurgery) and Dr. Malavika Murugan (Biology) awarded him highest honors. Congratulations Osama!!
Lab receives its first NIH grant!
We have just received our first funding from the NIH! This is a three-year R21 from the National Institute of Deafness and Communication Disorders to study the integration of head position signals with sound information in central auditory pathways.
Lab receives its first external grant, from the Whitehall Foundation!
The lab has just received its very first external funding. This is a three-year research grant from the Whitehall Foundation to study the neural circuitry of sensorimotor integration.
Welcome Cedric Bowe, the lab’s first graduate student!
Cedric is a student in the MD/PhD program at Emory. He completed a rotation in our lab in mid-summer, before going on to rotate with two other labs. In December 2022 Cedric decided to do his dissertation work in our lab. He is interested in understanding how Alzheimer’s Disease affects cognition. Welcome Cedric!

Abigail McElroy and Lucas Williamson are both first year students in the Neuroscience Graduate Program. They will each be doing a rotation in the lab during fall. Welcome!

The lab officially opens today!! Also, Dr. Rodgers will be presenting at two upcoming seminar series this month .. the Emory University Department of Cell Biology series, and the Frontiers in Neuroscience series.
New video presentation of our work
Dr. Rodgers presented at the Simons-Emory International Consortium on Motor Control and the video is now available on youtube! In this short video, he shows for the first time new preliminary data on active strategies for sound localization.
